Nevsky prospekt is the main street in Saint Petresburg.
It runs from the Admiralty and the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. It spread 4,5 km.
It derived its name from the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in 1781. In October 1918 to the first anniversary of the October revolution the street was called the Avenue of the 25th of October. On 13th of January 1944 the avenue became again Nevsky.
Nevsky prospekt arose in 1710s as a road between the Admiralty and Novgorod road. The avenue became popular. In the 18th century palaces of grand people were built. The main sights of the avenue are the Stroganov palace, the Kazan cathedral, the Anichkov bridge, Gostiny Dvor, the Russian National Library and others.
The electric lighting was set in 1883. In XIX — XX centuries banks, trade companies and administrative buildings were built. And in 1907 tram run was opened. Asthalt coat was set in 1938.
