The Golden Triangle
The Golden Triangle district
is situated between Bolshaya Neva, Fontanka and Nevsky Prospekt. There are the
Hermitage, the Russian museum, the Pushkin museum, the Field of Mars and the
Engineer castle in this district.
Nevsky Prospekt
Nevsky Prospekt was laid by
Karl Rossi. The northern side of Nevsky prospekt is called sunny and the
southern side is called dark. The stylistically severe area is a part from the
Kazan Cathedral to Ostrovskogo square.
Spasskaya part
Spasskaya part is a
district of the centre of the city adjacent to Sadovaya street between the Griboedov
canal and Fontanka. In the 18th century there were a lot of markets
in this area of the city. It is a noisy and dirty district.
Dostoevsky's Petersburg
Dostoevsky's Petersburg is the
district between Kazanskaya street
and the Griboedov canal. It is a gloomy, dark and poor place. The writer lived
there in 1860s in Kaznacheyskaya
street. Heroes from his works such as Rodion Raskolnikov
and Sonechka Marmeladova lived not far from that place.
