The Baltiysky Rail Terminal is situated at the cognominal square on the territory of the Admiralteysky district. Initially the rail terminal has been built for the needs of a railway from Saint-Petersburg to the Peterhof and was called Peterhofsky. The present-day building of the rail terminal was built in 1855—1858 by the architect Krakau. The rail terminal has derived its present name in early 1870-s after the opening of the railway from Saint-Petersburg to Reval (present Tallinn). In early 1930 the Baltiysky Rail Terminal has been reconstructed. Since 1933 it has been accepted and started only the local trains being one of the largest in Russia from the point of local traffic flow. In early 2000-s another reconstruction has been done and inter alia an automatic payment control system has been established.
